DIY Cement Trays

Using the big plastic blue bowl and the medium size crinkle bowl from Dollar Tree I created this awesome (if I say so myself) cement bowl! I used the rapid set cement all that I got from Home Depot. About $18 for 25lb. Using acrylic black and ivory paint I made a watery paint solution and then paint some on the cement dish and swirled it around. After letting it dry for a minute or 2, I rinsed it out the dish with water so the colors won’t stick too much to it, creating a watercolor effect. It still has a matte chalky finish because I’m still waiting on an appropriate sealer to seal in the concrete from getting wet. I noticed some of my other concrete vessels, which I didn’t seal, starting to have cracks in it. One thing to note is that I’ve been using those vessels outside in the elements (extreme temperatures). So I’m not sure how it will hold up inside your house (without exposure to water).

I think it would look so pretty as jewelry tray or even to put your perfume/other beauty products on it.

What can I say? I was in a concrete making kind of mood. I was inspired by Casa Refined YouTube video: (https://youtu.be/E2kC2xAkTmg) and bought some silicone mold per Jorge’s suggestion to make these little trays and I had so much fun experimenting with different color options. I would suggest checking out his tutorial if you’re looking to make some!

Here is the silicone mold I used:

The one I used to put my essential oils and cup of roses by my bedside table has little imperfections on it, is actually my favorite! The little dinks adds character and I just love the color ways. I mixed a small batch of concrete and poured it on the mold then made another small batch and added black acrylic paint, so that’s how I got two different colors. I had to work fast because it’s rapid set concrete. I guess because I was making two different colors I didn’t have too much time to get the air bubbles out before it harden so that’s why there small gaps/holes in the tray.

My latest creation! I splattered some acrylic paint beforehand on the silicone mold to create the paint streak then I poured the cement over it. For the other tray I mixed two different colors separately then pour it into the tray and using my paint stick to swirl the two colors together to create a marble-y effect.
