Paint Everyday for 14 Days Challenge – Using Gouache

I started a paint challenge…as the title entails lol…using my new favorite medium..gouache! It really is a cross between acrylic and watercolors! I really like how I can layer on paint if I want to fix my mistakes lol. And adding white paint to add highlights or “erase” parts. Somedays I watched YouTube videos of other artists and I paint alongside them and somedays I use reference photos. There are also days when I start on something and just lose interest or I feel blahh…cause it’s not turning out the way I want it.

I was working on this painting in particular, for a couple of days, going back and forth. The eye just didn’t looked right to me and I kept playing around with it. I’m so proud of myself for not giving up and just going with my gut feeling. I titled this painting “Serenity” and gifting it to my cousin, bug. It kinda looks like her too, lol. We are both in the process of “transforming”, “rewiring” our mind so I think she will like it. It’s also the first time I signed my name to a painting. 🙂

Below are some of the supplies I’ve been using and I really like the look and quality of these brushes! It can be use for watercolor, gouache and acrylics and it comes with a pleather case! I’ve been using my watercolor palette for the gouaches and it’s okay…it dries out within the day and just not enough room for me to mix the colors. I’ve also been using this watercolor landscape sketch book for awhile and it’s a good size for me to do field studies on. 5 x 8 inches. I will have the items link below in case you’re interested. I bought all of my supplies on Amazon. know how it works out!

Holbein Gouache – 12 colors 5 ml size.

Wooden Paintbrush Kit

Landscape Watercolor Sketchbook – 5 x 8″

I also got a new air tight palette for my gouaches on amazon…it works out pretty well! I added some Windor and Newton watercolor medium to the gouaches and it seems to keep it liquid for a couple days…I been painting everyday so I can’t really attest to how long it keeps wet if I don’t open the case. I like that it has another detachable tray to mix colors as well.

As you can see I was on a gouache frenzy the last few days, lol! I do miss the transparency of watercolors sometimes though…because I find the colors don’t really blend well together…instead sometimes it just cover over the other color completely. Or maybe it’s me not mastering the paint yet. 🙁

Note: I get a little commission off the Amazon links…not sure since it’s my first time signing up for the associate link lol, but I thought I added this disclaimer.

Happy Painting!!
